DLP - Disappearing trick

October Theme
Translucent Papers
October 10
Art Challenge: Tissue Paper
Journal Prompt:  The Disappearing Trick

I started off with a page and threw some paint down and stamped over it.

I had some Christy Tomlinson She Art tissue paper that I didn't want to rip as the sentiments are lovely;  she felt like she could fly. She had the desire to create. She was ok with being imperfect. I also had some spotty tissue paper that I decided to use.

I found a quote online and added that - another page done!

I normally come up with a word for the year and was sent this link today from Carrie Hensley - it's a free course called unravelling 2016 and it also has a free 5 day course helping you choose your word for the year.

DLP - You had me at hello

October Theme
Translucent Papers
October 3
Art Challenge: Deli Paper
Journal Prompt:  You Had Me At Hello

Whilst thinking about this prompt I was listening to Adele's new album - the quotes on either side of the page are the first few lines in the first two songs. It got me thinking about a past (thankfully) relationship so I came with this page.

It started off with masking tape and washi, I added paint, gold brayered on the pages and then deli paper under the figures.

I added the quote with my new dymo letratag :)

Hope you are being crafty

Mandala Magic - Contemporary Hamsa

Day 4 of Mandala Magic and today is a contemporary hamsa.

I coloured the hamsa with promarkers and coloured the mandala with a neomarker.

I outlined some of the lines with jelly pens but you can't see it on the larger picture. Hopefully you can see it better on this picture.

Hope you have crafty plans today

Mandala Magic = Day 3 Concentric Circles

I'm still using the Windsor and Newton Journal and this time I coloured the mandala in with promarkers. It did bleed through to the back page but I'm ok with that.

Colouring was very therapeutic, I forgot how therapeutic it can be - I do have some colouring books (for adults) that I should get out!

DLP - Mirror mirror

August Theme
Faces, the Human Form & Characters
August 29
Art Challenge: Self Portrait
Journal Prompt:  Mirror Mirror

I am still waaaay behind but trying to do all the pages! This weeks challenge was a self portrait but I followed Rae's advice and went to a website that turned photos into line drawings - then went over it with pencil and paint. The light was quite bright on the photo so the line drawing lost my nose......I know....how do I smell......
So I (badly) sketched it in myself. The photo is from many years ago when my hair was straight.

I found the quote online and it reads ' Mirrors have 3 purposes, to show you who you are, to show you who you were and to to show you who you want to be' - Dan Pearce.

As it's Wednesday here is a picture of my desk - still in crimble card mode...

and a quick card I made for my mum's neighbour who had a baby girl.

Hope your week is going well

Mandala Magic

I am taking the free online class by Julie Gibbons called Mandala Magic. It is quite therapeutic in the same way I imagine zentangling is.

This is my Day 2 Mandala

I used a windsor and newton journal and coloured the mandala with inktense blocks. The journal held up quite well - the page buckled slightly but the colours and sharpie pen did not bleed through.

Happy thanksgiving to those in the USA

DLP - What advice would you offer to your younger self?

August Theme
Faces, the Human Form & Characters
August 22
Art Challenge: Layered (Using Multiple Mediums)
Journal Prompt:  Speak to your younger self- what advice would you offer?

I used bronze and silver paint dabbers as first layer and then stamped over the top of this.
I then used a stencil for the journalling lines and swirls, added my advice and then stamped my final piece of advice to younger me. I have stamped a girl on the pages but she didn't come out to well - oh well another layer.

DLP - How do I face my biggest challenge?

August Theme
Faces, the Human Form & Characters
August 15
Art Challenge: Painted
Journal Prompt:  How do I face my biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge is me - my inner voices - inner critic vs inner cheerleader.

I found a picture of a girl looking at a reflection at herself, I went around the edges with a paint dabber and used a different dabber with a babywipe for the background. I stamped different background stamps by JOFY and then used my dylusions alphabet for the quote.

Hope you are warm, dry and crafting!

DLP - What I see clearly now

Long time no blog - I haven't really been at home much on October due to training and a family bereavement so I am WAY behind on DLP. This page is the first week of August's prompt. It's a bit of a mash up between DLP and the free life book lesson that Tam Laporte did.

August Theme
Faces, the Human Form & Characters
August 1
Art Challenge: Expressive Faces
Journal Prompt:  What I see clearly now

I started out with an image and went over it with clear gesso.

I had put a mix of design paper and washi tape on the other page and painted over the image with acrylic paint and neocolours. It was really hard to do any shading as the paint reacted to any water going over the top of it.

It reads can you see me now?

Hope you have a crafty day/weekend planned!

Sunday, 20 September 2015

You can.........

I have quite a lot of chipboard and paper letters lying around so thought I should use them up. I started with my dylusion sprays and then used the matching paints for stencilling. I used black gesso to paint the letters,

I added some stamping and some white highlights.

DLP - At this moment (A New Chapter)

July Theme
Ephemera
July 25
Art Challenge: Real Life
Journal Prompt:  At this Moment

I started off with my dylusions sprays and then stencilled in the same colours.

I used some torn book pages and added the words - a new chapter

I added some stamping and some pictures of books to signify the new chapter in my life (new job).

Hope you are being crafty today

Another finish.......

I am ashamed to say I started this at a craftathon a couple of years ago (?when). It was Cherry's shoebox project inspired by the wonderful Vicky P and her cups art journal page. I finished the background and spray painted the book pages with dylusions and cut out/stuck down the hearts whilst I was there. Since I got back I went around the hearts with my black gelatos for shading and that is pretty much it....

I knew the whole time the quote I wanted to put on there and over the weekend dug out my chipboard letters. I am loving black gesso at the moment and the matt finish you get with it. I used a mix of chipboard letters and stamping. I can't be the only one with a load of unfinished pieces can I ?
