I bought a relatively cheap journal when I went to Newbury with crafty pals, as I didn't trust my inner 'art journaller' .. seems I was right!
I gesso'd the first page in all my enthusiasm getting all over the cover, some of the other pages and basically having a gloopy mess around the edges. I bought some cosmic shimmer mists and had a play with them but one of them just piddled everywhere until oh took the spray bit apart and unblocked it (blow don't suck)
hmmm not how I expected it to be..
so I painted over the whole thing with acrylic paint - trying the cover the splodgy bits around the outside...
the white you can see is the page behind it honest!!
I decided to embrace the messy and put some ink splats on, lettering is Lindsay Mason. Really not how I expected my first page to look but ho hum!
I am entering this page into the following challenges;
Totally Gorjuss - Anything Goes

Well done on taking a leap into art journaling. You are very brave working in a journal...I keep bottling it and working on loose leaf. I can't stand the mess into the other pages, perhaps in 2014 I might try again! X
Well, whether you like it or not ..... I do (like it that is!) and we all KNOW there are no mistakes in art - I always find my finished pages look nothing like my original plan! Worry not, as long as you're happy with it that's what counts, Debs - hope you'll be sharing more of these journal pages as time goes on.
Kathy
You could always try putting newspaper behind the sheet you are working on - to keep spillover mess to a minimum

Great you have taken the jump and had a go. There is no right or wrong with Art Journalling and it is what you want. This looks great Debs and says what you wanted. Keep going!!

I think it looks great. I love the added hot air balloons and flourishes. Thanks for joining us at ATSM
Love how you created your background with the soft stamping over. I can relate to the sentiment! Thank you for joining us at ATSM.
Well it turned out fab in the end! That wording describes my craft room perfectly!
Thanks for sharing with us at Totally Gorjuss.

Hi Debs . . . Kathy K gave me the confidence to just go ahead and TRY Art Journaling after I'd been putting off starting.
I think this looks GREAT personally. I'd be happy with it if I'd made it. I just LOVE getting messy with my AJ - it's so LIBERATING and completely different to my card making style.
Definitely time to embrace the splats and mess . . . and go with the flow. As I NEVER have a clue about how I my page will end up . . . it just does its own thing and it's always a surprise!
You Go Girl! xxx
